Wooden Picture Frames

Picture frames come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, and are made out of many different materials. But I want to take a few minutes and tell you why wooden picture frames are the best frame to get.

Let's start with quality. Wood is extremely strong, tough and very durable. If you drop a wooden picture frame, it won't break or bend like metal or glass frames. It's also not very hard to find wood. It grows everywhere in the world, it's cheap and very accessible.

Wooden picture frames look great too. There are so many different types of trees in the world, which means a huge variety of looks and textures for your wooden frame. You can get colored frames like red oak, green bamboo and gray pine. I personally like the natural look of wood, and usually go with un-colored wooden frames.

My mom regularly visits the coast of Mexico and picks up drift wood while she walks the beach. Driftwood is just wood that has been floating in the ocean for a long time. It has a unique texture, and it's usually very strong. I like to make picture frames out of the driftwood she collects.

If you want to spice up your frames a little bit, wood is the perfect carving material. You can carve out a design, a personalized message, or pretty much anything into the frame. I like to experiment with different carving designs with my own pictures. But when I give these as gifts, I usually carve a personalized message into the frame for the receiver of that gift.

If you don't trust yourself carving into your picture frame, you can always buy wooden picture frames that have designs and artwork already carved into them. There are even websites that let you customize your own frames! So you can get the exact design you want, without having to carve it yourself.

If you're an arts and crafts type of person, I strongly encourage you to design and build your own wooden picture frames. For yourself or as a gift, this will be one of the most unique things in your home. It's not hard either. Start by measuring the picture. Then you'll need to buy some picture frame mold and some glass.

Cut a line into the middle of all 4 pieces of wood, about 1 cm thick. This is where the glass will slide into and hold it secure. Put your picture between the two panes of glass, and fit the glass into the 1 cm cuts in the wood. Apply your picture frame mold to all 4 corners of the wood and put it together. When everything dries and finishes, you'll have a homemade wooden picture frame.

What type of picture frame you use will ultimately come down to personal taste. Some people just like the look of metal of wood, or maybe it matches their house better. But if you've never had a picture frame made out of wood before, you should get at least one. I know you'll love it.
